I am an avid connoisseur of afternoon tea, and I have done tea at all the best hotels in NYC and London. I can comfortably say that the afternoon tea here at the Thayer Hotel is as good as any of the best places I’ve been—for half the price and twice the portion of food and tea. I was blown away by how generous and bountiful their servings are (for instance, rather than having you select a single tea and giving you one tiny pot of that tea, they bring four enormous servings of tea leaves, and you get all of them!). Their egg salad sandwich is the most delicious I’ve had anywhere. The scones and madeleines were great, and there were perfectly ripe fresh berries strewn liberally all over the serving tiers. We will definitely be back whenever they offer afternoon tea service again!

Our friends from NH were visiting WP for the first time so we went to Thayer for lunch. Wanted to make it a day to remember lunching outside on the patio overlooking the river and fall colors. Our waiter, Seth, was FANTASTIC! Super service, super attentive and made a delicious lemon drop. Our friends had the apple pie and said it was ‘to die for’. A great day topped off with a great meal.

My husband and I were visiting the area for our anniversary. The team greeted us the moment we stepped out of our car at Valet, the hostess was very welcoming and Jeff, our waiter, was fantastic! He was so kind, knowledgeable and guided us through the menu, which everything was phenomenal. From the spinach dip with waffle fries to the steak with garlic butter and the mouth watering butternut squash raviolis, we couldn’t get enough! Also, I suggest getting the apple pie with vanilla ice cream to finish off your experience. Between all that and the historic surroundings of the hotel, I would highly recommend!

This restaurant experience was made delightful by the lovely waitress Debbie and manager Modina! They were so lovely, brought coloring pages for my nieces and nephew, and were so professional and kind.

Yesterday, I celebrated Mother's Day here with my family. The brunch was simply amazing. The food was delicious and the staff was phenomenal -very attentive. Everything was well organized and running on time. My mom and mother-in-law who are in their 70s thoroughly enjoyed the day. This is my 6th time dining here and I'm never disappointed with the service. Keep up the great work.

Vegan eats review: Was pleasantly surprised to find vegan eats. Squash bisque (a tad too thick and the skins of the squash weren’t completely blended in) Bulgogi (super flavorful. Could use a touch more rice to help cleanse the palate between bites) if they added baked tomatoes it would send it to another level! Would love to see some vegan desserts in the future. Quiet establishment and attentive service but not so much you felt you couldn’t relax and enjoy your meal. Old school vibes. Try to get a table by the window for an amazing view.

It’s a very good restaurant with breathtaking views from the terrace. I think it’s underrated based on Google reviews. Salmon with rice, beets salad, a glass of Chardonnay, everything was delicious. Staff was very welcoming. This isn’t a NYC fine dining restaurant yet finding a good restaurant in countryside/suburbs isn’t easy and this one is excellent. I had a wonderful time dining there and felt taken care off. Breakfast was great too and staff is most welcoming.

We went to the Thayer over the July 4 (2025) weekend. My scoring on food (dinner, Zulu lounge, and Sunday Brunch) is based on the entire experience not a niggling thing here or there. It was either exceptional or not - nothing in between. It has been about 25 years since my last visit and happy to report the experience from food to service and everything in between - was exceptional. Our server Monica was terrific and took special care of not only us but all of the patrons she cared for. She was awesome so was this total experience dining at the Thayer. Can hardly wait to get back there. Highly recommend visiting this great and historic Hotel.

This restauraunt has amazing food! Don't let the look of the seafiod risotto fool you! It exploded with taste and every bite was savory and delicous! Salad was a decent portion and fresh! The atmosphere is amazing! The view of the Hudson River from the balcony is breathtaking and relaxing. There is a quaint little garden below the restauraunt overlooking the river with all sorts of flowers. The daisies and black-eyed susans really set it off! I took a photo with Sandy who has been a server at the restaurant for over 20 years. She said she was the first to receive her 5-star pin! Her and the rest of the staff were awesome and friendly! The inside has a victorian feel that is relaxing as well. Wonderfully designed! A must try if you are in the area or staying at the hotel!

We had such a wonderful experience at MacArthur’s Riverview Restaurant and we’ll absolutely be returning. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt magical — like dining inside a historic castle with warm lighting, intricate gold details, and cozy elegance that honestly felt straight out of an episode of Gilmore Girls. The views and ambiance made the entire evening feel so special and memorable. ✨ A huge thank you to Sandy, Aymee, Alicia, and Joseph for the amazing hospitality and attentive service throughout the night. Everyone was so kind, welcoming, and professional, and they made the entire dinner feel effortless and elevated from start to finish. We ordered quite a few things because everything sounded incredible, and every single dish delivered. The bread basket with fresh butter was such a comforting start to the meal. We loved the Poached Pear & Walnut Burrata appetizer, and the Lobster Bisque was rich, velvety, and absolutely delicious. The ribeye was cooked perfectly — tender, juicy, and full of flavor. We also ordered the sea scallops, mashed potatoes, and macaroni & cheese, and everything was beautifully prepared and genuinely comforting without feeling too heavy. Dessert was just as impressive. The chocolate cake was decadent and rich, the apple pie was warm and delicious, and even the tea at the end of the meal was lovely. Truly one of those dinners where every course felt thoughtful and satisfying. Between the beautiful historic setting, generous portions, fantastic food, warm service, and overall experience, this felt like an amazing value as well. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to linger a little longer and savor the whole evening. Highly recommend for a date night, celebration, cozy upscale dinner, or anyone wanting a truly charming Hudson Valley experience. We can’t wait to come back. 🤍
